Mark Levin: State Legislatures Have ‘Duty’ to ‘Restore Our Republic’

(CNSNews.com) - Constitutional expert and nationally syndicated talk show host Mark Levin said that state legislatures have a duty to “restore our republic and give us our Constitution back,” at the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) National Policy Summit at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

Levin’s remarks focused on how Article V of the Constitution, which gives state legislatures the power to act as a final check on the abuse of power in Washington, is the way to reclaim self-governance.

“Wide-ranging decisions affecting virtually every aspect of life are being made by fewer and fewer masterminds in Washington, D.C., in an increasingly centralized federal government using a growing army of bureaucrats, a fourth branch of government if you will, to institute and enforce them,” Levin said.

“More and more what the federal government does is insulate it from elections. If elections are one that advance the left’s agenda, then they’ll celebrate. If they lose the elections, elections are denounced as temporary inconveniences, and then they turn to the unelected federal institutions to advance their agenda,” he said.

“In other words, the trajectory towards utopian statism, concentrated power, centralized government is never really checked or actually reversed, and the reason is, and the sad truth is, that we live largely under the post-constitutional government,” Levin said. “This is no longer a federal republic, or a constitutional republic, or a representative republic. The federal constitutional representative character of the national government has been and are being expanded. We are mutating into something else.

I've been following Mark Levin's promotion of the "Article V" solution to the present anarchy and chaos in our fedgov ever since his book "The Liberty Amendments" came out. While I applaud his passion for our country, I just have one fundamental comment and question:

The comment: We can all agree that we no longer live in a Constitutional Republic. It's been bastardized and corrupted beyond recognition. Congress is irrelevant (unless someone the media hates is in the WH). Currently we live in a monarchy ruled by Zero the First. Elections (that go against the statists) are irrelevant. The is no effective opposition party - only the Jeb Bushes, Mitch McConnells and John Boehners - interested only in having their own cushy jobs, money and power.

So again and to repeat for emphasis - there IS no Constitution.

Now the question: Since the ruling class DOES NOT adhere to the Constitution, what makes anyone think that this IS a solution? Simply put - is it reasonable or logical to argue that the same ruling class who ignores everything in the Constitution (unless it can use it to its advantage) is going to all of a sudden follow this?

As much as I'd like for there to be a peaceful outcome to the present anarchy, I don't see it happening.

Tyrants don't give up that easily.

I understand your questions about that aspect RTF. If you read all of the proposed (potential) Liberty Amendments, you see that he has crafted a set of them that would actually take back the power that fedgov has slowly usurped from the several States over time. (In the full video in the post above, he sort of explains some of this, but not completely and clearly, as well.)

The general idea as I understand it, when fedgov continues to operate outside the bounds of the Constitution, the several States can band together (via these Amendments) to reign them in (by in some cases just over ruling their decrees (be they from the Executive, Judicial, Legislature, or almost most importantly at this point, the 4th branch of bureaucracies).

Some of these Amendments would take time to bear fruit, e.g., term limits for Congress and SC justices, the repeal of the 17th. The term limits would obviously have the effect of dissuading some of the power hungry that run for these offices looking for a lifetime ride on the gravy train of power & dollars, and the current set of "lifers" would be turned out over time. Obviously it will also take some time for the States to begin to install the right type of Senators (I am sure in the beginning some of the same tripe will be sent in/back, but over time, once the States get the "hang of" the desirability of sending men and women that will actually represent their interests, the breed should improve).

But some of the Amendments that permit the several States (3/5 in most cases) to band together to have immediate effect: rolling back bureaucratic rule-making, over turn SC decisions, and so forth.

So you see, even if fedgov continues to operate outside the bounds of the Constitution for a time (theoretically until we get more of the "right" people in there, and remove the "wrong" people), the States will be able to exert their collective control over them. If you listen to Mark he makes the point at times (but perhaps not enough) that these proposed Amendments aren't picked out willy nilly from thin air, they are actually a set of constructs that are designed to effect structural changes that bring fedgov back in line as was envisioned by the Founders. He did this by taking what he gleaned from years of study of the Founders notes, diaries, and other writings, the recorded minutes and notes from the ratifying conventions of the several States, to actual attempt to discern original intent (to use that phrase) of the Founders, and draft Amendments that would be needed today (and tomorrow) to gradually re-institute the structural reforms to bring fedgov back into submission of We The People and the several States.

Think about it like this, originally the power construct was to be We The People sitting on top with the most power, followed closely by the several States, with fedgov as the weakest and most limited. As you have seen, over time, that pyramid has been turned upside down and the States and WtP are being crushed to death by the fedgov leviathan.

Rufus certainly does bring some good points. But as I mentioned in other posts, I see an Article V convention as a last ditch effort or 'Hail Mary' as FW mentioned before launching into all out revolution.

Right now there are many low infos out there who sometimes lean conservative (I have some family members in this group). But because they don't do their own political research and rely on the lame stream propaganda media for their information, they don't yet see how many freedoms they've lost and certainly would not be on board with a revolution. They don't yet realize how bad things really are, even though they dislike Bambi.

If this convention were to go forward with amendments even they would agree with, and the states were to ratify them, and then our corrupt overlords in D.C. React as Rufus believes they might, the truth would then be on full display where even the propaganda media couldn't fully cover it up anymore than they could the fiasco of Obamacare.

This could be the catalyst we would need to get more if the country to wake up. We would need much of the military and the police force on the side of the Constitution to have much success with an actual revolution. Interesting times indeed.

Your post made me think of something. A good number of low information voters (LIVs) make up the millennium generation. Now my daughter (age 28) and most of the people I work with happen to be millennials. While I don't tend to get into political discussions per se wth them, I do pick up little snippets here and there. And what I hear is discouraging.

Co-workers will play the part of being non-partisan (both parties suck) - but then when they cite examples it's always "Sarah Palin is "stupid" or "the tea party is a threat." It's never anything like "Nancy Pelosi is stupid" or "Harry Reid and Obama is a threat". My 28 year old daughter is as apolitical as they come - yet on her Facebook page I saw something she posted. A cousin had invited her to move to Texas - she responded back "I'd never move there because Ted Cruz is there and he's an a-hole"

My point is the upcoming generation is the product of years and years of indoctrination (passing as education) in the schools and in the media. They're worse than low information - they are deliberate MIS-information.

And until they fell the PAIN of this - any solutions they go with are going to be the wrong solutions
