UPDATE 1/26/15 1:45pm -- House GOP leadership has pulled this bill from the floor. This is a huge victory for grassroots conservatives and shows how the pressure of intellectually sound arguments and information is winning the day.
In order to understand just how much of a distraction the border bill authored by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) is from the fundamental immigration problem, take a look at the following excerpt from an op-ed written last week by DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson in La Opinión, a prominent Spanish-language media outlet:
ZitatAt the same time, the United States government is creating an alternative, lawful path for children at risk of harm in Central America to come to the United States: if you are an adult lawfully in the United States, you may apply to bring your child from Guatemala, El Salvador or Honduras to the United States, provided the child can qualify for refugee or parole status under our laws. Parents in the United States can now file a form with the Department of State to request a refugee interview of their child in Central America.
Not only is this administration offering its own unconstitutional amnesty program for those who already came here illegally, they are violating our asylum and parole laws by inviting children of illegal immigrants who have not even entered our country yet to reunite with their illegal alien parents. Needless to say, asylum and parole should be granted only on a case-by-case basis for extraordinary emergencies, not as a categorical invitation for entire countries to come here and feast on the welfare state. But Obama has never let those pesky laws passed by that irrelevant legislative branch get in his way.
It is in this context that we can observe the absurd timing of the McCaul border bill. The imminent emergency with our borders is that we have a president who has nullified current laws and is reorienting the entire Department of Homeland Security towards breaking the laws instead of enforcing the existing laws. The House passed a bill that must remain the only immigration bill to ever pass that body until this crisis is resolved and the law is restored. The bill defunds all of the malfeasance – including Obama’s catch and release policies ordered since 2011.

'Dead' for the moment. I don't trust these b@stids, they probably have the next plan rolling into action.... The old saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way" is certainly true for them.
