Havana (AFP) - A Russian intelligence warship docked in Havana on Tuesday, a day before the start of historic US-Cuba talks aimed at normalizing diplomatic relations.
There was nothing stealthy about the arrival of the Viktor Leonov CCB-175, which was moored to a pier in Old Havana where cruise ships often dock. But the visit was not officially announced by Cuban authorities.
US officials in Washington played down the presence of the Russian vessel, saying it was perfectly legal and not at all out of the ordinary.
"It's not unprecedented. It's not unusual. It's not alarming," a defense official told AFP.
The Soviets are in deep economic shit right now. Maybe they were in Havana to see if they could get back some of that money they had sent them all these decades.

This reminds me of when Carter opened our ports to the commies while I was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Lejeune and Russian ships would come into Morehead City about 50 miles away.
The area was crawling with spies.

I don't see the Russians and the old Cuban communist guard joining hands with us and singing Kumbaya down there.
The situation will always be a powder keg as long as the Russians are allowed in our hemisphere.
We should have nuked Cuba from orbit and dared anyone to say anything about it, long ago.
