She’d be a household name if only she was a liberal Democrat who whined about the cost of birth control. We doubt anyone in the national media could pick her out of a lineup.
An upstate New York Republican is slated Tuesday to shatter the congressional record of former Brooklyn Democratic Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman as the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.
Elise Stefanik, 30, is favored to win in New York’s upstate 21st District and break history as the youngest female to win a seat in the House. Holtzman was sworn in at age 31 in 1973 at a time when women weren’t even allowed in the congressional gym.
“I’m just sorry it’s a not a Democrat,” Holtzman told The Post. “But hats off to her. We need more young women in Congress.”
Holtzman, who co-founded the first women’s caucus, never expected her record to last more than 40 years and would check with Congress every election to see if any young woman had finally surpassed it.
Stefanik, a Harvard graduate and a former aide to President George W. Bush, was not the person she had in mind.
“I think more important than gender, it’s what people stand for,” said Holtzman, a lawyer in Manhattan.
Another young Republican woman suffering from a national news blackout is Marilinda Garcia in New Hampshire, locked in a tight race with a Democrat incumbent who’s obsessed with abortion. We long for the day when Democrat women run on issues other than birth control and abortion.
This is no person for the GOP to rally around. She is a DC political hack who doesn't even live in the district she is running in. Her residence is a $1.3 townhouse in DC. She is using her parents vacation home to meet the residency requirements. At least the Leftist Rat is a long time resident and has a business in the area.
Another Republican woman who is getting little attention but whose election would be an historical event is Mia Love out of Utah.
"Mia Love could find out Tuesday if she can win a House seat on her second try and become the first black female Republican in Congress."
I have seen few news stories on her campaign. Others may have. I always suspect the blackout (no pun intended) on news of this kind of candidacy (a black female Republican in Utah) by the MSM is purposeful so that blacks elsewhere won't get the idea such a thing is possible.
