Immigrants filling the void as residents flee N.J. by the tens of thousands (Interactive Map) By Stephen Stirling on March 27, 2015 at 7:25 AM, updated March 27, 2015 at 3:50 PM
New Jersey residents are fleeing the state in droves, but the loss is primarily being offset by a continued influx of immigrants from other countries, without which the state's population would be declining precipitously.
Between 2013 and 2014, New Jersey lost at least 55,000 residents who left for other states, the continuation of a trend that's been going on for decades as people flee the state to retire, to seek a lower-cost of living and jobs in places that have been quicker to recover from the recession.
But in the same span, more than 51,000 people have moved to the Garden State from other countries, at the same time reshaping the state's population and stabilizing its slow growth.
It's the same thing that has spurred the state's massive growth in the early part of the 20th century, but today, it's preventing an exodus.
"This is really what we'd call a demographic long wave," said James Hughes, dean of the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. It's been going on for a long time and it will continue to go on. The result is a sustained increase in diversity and population."
The headline is bass ackwards. It ought to read Immigrants and Illegals Flood NJ Causing Residents to Flee.
There are some choice comments: "Has any one else picked up on the fact that the media now lumps both legal and illegal immigration together as if there's no distinction between the two? I fully realize our president sees it that way but he's as wrong as they are."
"This whole article is akin to putting the cart before the horse. "Filling a void?" First off NJ.com makes absolutely no distinction between illegal and legal immigrants and the immigrants who are here no where near "fill the void" of the thousands of life long Taxpayers who had enough and left. Numbers in this case are really no more than a detriment than a help. Tell me, if someone makes $20,000 a year and it costs $40,000 to live here exactly how is that a help? They've gamed the system and suck it dry with their anchor babies who are being paid for by Americans who can no longer afford their own children because they're too busy paying for someone else's! Well, the horses are leaving and the question will be who exactly is going to pull that overloaded cart?"

Quote: truthkeeper wrote in post #2Sustitute the word "California" for "New Jersey" and you'll see what's going on here too.
My sympathies.
I can't find the links quickly, but IIRC there is a new federal department to ensure the entire country gets to "share the love". IIRC the department also is empowered to ensure there is adequate diversity in cities throughout the country.
