Rand Paul assaulted by Trump hater, Bernie Sanders supporter

Senator Rand Paul was tackled to the ground by a neighbor while he was mowing his lawn in Bowling Green, KY on Friday, causing minor injuries according to a police report. The neighbor, Rene Boucher, and Paul were embroiled in some kind of feud, according to another neighbor.

But Boucher's Facebook postings reveal a virulent Trump hater and a supporter of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

According to the warrant against Boucher, the attack was "intentional":

The warrant, which was obtained by CNN affiliate WBKO in Bowling Green, said Paul had injuries to his face, including small cuts to the nose and mouth area, and had trouble breathing due to a potential rib injury. Paul was seen by a doctor Friday, the warrant said.

Police allege Boucher, 59, "admitted going onto Paul's property and tackling him," the warrant said.

Tyler O'Neil of PJ Media, found a Facebook account belonging to a "Rene Boucher" from Bowling Green who listed his occupation as anesthesiologist.

This little investigation confirmed that the Rene Boucher who attacked Rand Paul is also the Rene Boucher who reposts anti-Trump memes and stories, and shares posts from Bernie Sanders.

Boucher shared a meme from "Proud Liberals" calling Trump a liar. In May, he shared a post from the page "Impeach Trump, Impeach Pence, Keep Impeaching." He shared a photo of the Time magazine cover with the White House turned into the Kremlin. He quoted an ex-CIA official who called Trump the "Sissy in chief."

Boucher did not share many original thoughts, but there was this nugget from May 17: "May Robert Mueller fry Trump's gonads."

Boucher's politics are definitely liberal.

Perhaps more importantly, Boucher has repeatedly supported Sen. Sanders' proposal for universal health care. He shared a Sanders meme depicting the U.S. as the "only major country" without universal health care.

Boucher also shared a video of Bernie Sanders mocking President Trump on universal health care.

Unfortunately, Boucher has no public political posts before 2017, so it is hard to tell whether or not he was a Bernie Sanders supporter during the Democratic primaries last year. Given his firm anti-Trump stance and his sharing multiple Sanders memes, however, it stands to reason.

James Hodgkinson, the man who opened fire at the Republican practice for the Congressional Baseball Game, was a firm Sanders supporter (and he "liked" the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that arguably inspired terrorism on Facebook). Boucher may be the second Bernie Sanders supporter to attack Republicans this year — and to attack Rand Paul specifically.[/quote]
Senator Paul was also present at that attack on Republicans on the baseball field.

Bernie Sanders is a loon, so I suppose it's not a stretch to imagine many of his supporters are also unbalanced. Of course, Sanders' and other Democrats' anti-Trump, anti-GOP rhetoric had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the attack on Paul or the shooting of congressional Republicans. It's all one great, big coincidence so, there's nothing to see here. Move along.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was recovering Sunday from five broken ribs after he was assaulted by a neighbor who tackled him from behind at the senator's Kentucky home, officials said.

Senior Adviser Doug Stafford said it is unclear when the Republican will return to work since he is in considerable pain and has difficulty getting around, including flying. Stafford said this type of injury is marked by severe pain that can last for weeks to months.

Stafford said Paul had three displaced fractures, which can lead to life-threatening injuries, as well as lung contusions. Paul and his wife, Kelley, "appreciate everyone's thoughts and well wishes and he will be back fighting for liberty in the Senate soon," Stafford said.

The attack was a shock for the community in Bowling Green, where a neighbor says he would often see Paul and Boucher out walking their dogs on the normally quiet streets. Jim Skaggs, a member of the state Republican Party executive committee, lives in the neighborhood and has known both men for years. He said they disagreed politically, but was shocked to hear of the incident.

Medical Update: Rand Paul Sustained 6 Broken Ribs, Pleural Effusion

Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul confirmed his injuries are more extensive than initially reported after his neighbor attacked him outside of his Kentucky home Friday.

Paul’s neighbor, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, assaulted Paul while he was mowing his lawn. The Kentucky Republican was initially thought to have broken five ribs and suffered contusions after being tackled to the ground. “I appreciate all of the support from everyone,” he said in a statement Wednesday. “A medical update: Final report indicates six broken ribs and a new X-ray shows a pleural effusion.”

Rand Paul's neighbors rip media 'landscaping dispute' reports

The Bowling Green, Ky., neighbor who allegedly attacked Sen. Rand Paul last weekend, causing six broken ribs, was aggressively anti-Trump and anti-GOP in his social media, calling for the impeachment of the president and urging Russia investigator Robert Mueller to “fry Trump’s gonads.”

Captured screen grabs of Rene Boucher’s Facebook page provided to Secrets and taken down since the event also show that the anesthesiologist was a fan of the #NeverTrump clan.

His lawyer said that politics played no part and it has been suggested that the two verbally tussled over lawn clippings, leaving the impression that the Republican Kentucky senator was a negligent landscaper.

But seven neighbors in the Rivergreen gated community told Secrets Wednesday that the Pauls are friendly homeowners who kept their property tidy.

“The Paul’s landscaping looks just like everyone’s place in Rivergreen. Wish I could get him to cut my lawn,” said neighbor Robert Warner. “As a friend, neighbor and senator, Rand has been first class in every way. What I find amazing is the fact that he cuts his own grass. Our neighborhood is fortunate that the Paul’s live here,” he added.

All seven neighbors expressed shock at the “scary” attack on Paul as he was doing yard work last Saturday and they dismissed reports that it was the result of poor landscaping. However, they are puzzled about why Boucher, 59, allegedly tackled Paul, 54, who was wearing ear plugs at the time. Boucher has been charged with assault.

“The stories of a ‘landscaping dispute’ or a dispute of any sort between Rand Paul and Rene Boucher are erroneous and unfounded. The reason for Mr. Boucher’s bizarre attack is known only to him. Statements to the contrary are irresponsible and unnecessary,” said neighbor Travis Creed.

He added, “Speculation regarding Boucher’s motive has led to an unfair characterization of the Pauls and their home. The Pauls are and always have been great neighbors and friends. They take pride in their property and maintain it accordingly. Rand has enjoyed working on and maintaining his lawn for as long as I have known him.”

Another neighbor, Dan Renshaw, owner of a large car sales group, told us, “This episode is so wrong on so many levels, to be absolutely blindsided and attacked while mowing one’s lawn. I can’t imagine being in my yard pulling weeds or mowing and being totally attacked by anyone, much less my neighbor? It’s hard to believe he was out of jail the next morning on a $7,500 bail.”

He took note that the attack wasn’t on any neighbor, but a U.S. senator. “What kind of individual does this? It’s scary when it hits this close to home, to friends or neighbors,” said Renshaw.

Renshaw also dismissed the speculation that the fight was over landscaping. “Their lawn is always mowed. It’s such a lame excuse. That could have killed Rand if a rib had punctured a lung or worse yet the heart. Just no excuse for this type of behavior from adults. Especially educated adults.”

Paul on Wednesday tweeted that his condition included six broken ribs and excess fluid around his lungs.

Neighbor Alicia Stivers express shock at the violence of the attack. “I have never heard Sen. Paul speak an unkind word about anyone, let alone become physically violent. Which makes it all the more shocking that a next-door neighbor of many years who has not so much as exchanged an email or spoken word with Rand in several years, would race downhill and pummel Rand from behind,” said Stivers.

She has served four years on the neighborhood association and said that there were no reports of problems between Paul or Boucher. “I am wondering how the media can describe what took place as an altercation. Is it an altercation when no words are exchanged and one person is attacked from behind with no warning? I must check my dictionary,” she added.

Ditto from Rina Malmquist, the current Rivergreen homeowner’s association president.

And neighbors Kevin and Diona Kelly told of how Paul and his wife Kelley are friendly neighbors who even include them in their annual “Paul Family Football Game” at the holidays.

“It is here that Rand and his family welcome any and all neighbors, whether you choose to be a player, a cheerleader or a self-appointed referee you are part of a team. It is here that we join to catch up on our busy lives, to reminisce about our many afternoons at the lake and to reacquaint ourselves with the simple task of ‘being neighborly,” they said.

Rand Paul’s Wife: ‘Troubled’ Neighbor Carried Out ‘Blindside’ Attack On My Husband

Rand Paul’s wife, Dr. Kelley Paul, eviscerated the media and the neighbor who attacked her husband in an opinion piece for CNN.

Senator Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, was the victim of a vicious attack on November 3rd. His neighbor reportedly tackled him from behind and left him with six broken ribs, three displaced ribs, a pleural effusion, and pneumonia.

Kelley writes in CNN that since the attack, her husband has not taken a single breath without pain.

“As his wife, I have been distraught over seeing him suffer like this,” she says. “There have been several nights where I had my hand on my phone ready to call 911 when his breathing became so labored it was terrifying.”

Sen. Paul’s neighbor, Rene Albert Boucher, has plead not guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge and his attorney has continued to argue that the attack was the result of a “long-running disagreement” over yard maintenance.

Kelley Paul slammed speculation by the media that the attack was over a trivial neighborly dispute involving things like lawn trimmings or gardening. One article in The New Yorker suggested the attack could be blamed on a rank smell coming from some gourds in Sen. Paul’s yard.

“It is incredibly hurtful that some news outlets have victimized Rand a second time as he struggles to recover, delighting in hateful headlines like ‘Not A Perfect Neighbor,’ and concocting theories about an ‘ongoing dispute,’ based on nothing more than speculation from an attention-seeking person with no knowledge of anything to do with us,” Kelley asserts.

Kelley explains that she and her husband have not spoken to the neighbor in ten years beyond a polite wave.

“The only ‘dispute’ existed solely in the attacker’s troubled mind,” she says.

She continues, “This has been a terrible experience; made worse by the media’s gleeful attempts to blame Rand for it, ridiculing him for everything from mowing his own lawn to composting.”

Kelley Paul ends her piece by regretting that Sen. Paul will be unable to partake in their usual Thanksgiving traditions of golf and touch football, but gives thanks to her “supportive family” and the “encouragement and prayers of hundreds of kind and thoughtful people.”
