Kevin McCarthy, the California Republican who replaced Virginia representative Eric Cantor as House majority leader, believes there is an “opportunity” to negotiate for the legalization of illegal immigrants, but not until the border is secure.

“I believe there’s an opportunity,” he said on Fox News Sunday. “But if you don’t secure the borders, there’s nothing.”

McCarthy emphasized that he does not support a path to citizenship, and seemed at pains to avoid repeating Cantor’s mistake of appearing out of step with the Republican base on immigration.

“I’m on record saying nothing about immigration, until we secure the borders,” McCarthy told Chris Wallace. “Until you secure the borders, you cannot have the conversation about anything else.”

One of the top House Democrats arguing for legislation similar to the Senate immigration bill is throwing in the towel, at least on the legislative process. “Nothing’s going to happen,” Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D., Ill.) told the Washington Post. “My point of view is, this is over. There’s no reason to continue to wait. Every day, 1,000 people get deported. The president should stop deportations. There’s no reason to wait.”

McCarthy blamed the current surge of unaccompanied children coming into the country on a lack of border security. “Look at the humanitarian crisis that is happening right now along the border states. These are children coming from three major countries in Central America. They’re going across. Kids are dying,” he said. “It’s because our borders are not secure.”

I keep hearing the law was changed in 2008 so that we HAVE to take these "children" at our border.

Well then, CHANGE THE DAMN LAW BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE.

THEN start deporting, THEN build a wall.

Who could have imagined that a Country could allow its children to be sent over without adults? It's outrageous!!! Imagine Americans doing this with their children with absolutely no public outcry against the inhumanity of the exodus?

I mean why isn't there any public shaming of the government of Mexico? Because this is an Obama public policy to punish us for not passing immigration reform, just like Fast and Furious was to punish for not passing gun control.

Rush is calling this entire fiasco a "shakedown' by King Hussein, a la Jesse Jackson. Vote the way he wants on amnesty, or he'll flood the nation with illegals.

Sort of a human "fast and furious."

Its an invasion - NOT immigration.

Immigrants WANT to assimilate, invaders don't. Immigrants WANT to learn their new country's language, culture and values. Invaders want you to adapt to their language, culture and values. Immigrants WANT to be legal, invaders don't, they just take.

In every sense of the word it is an invasion pure and simple. We need to start treating it like one.

And if that means a militarized border where we shoot anything that moves across it - so be it.
