California man battles stage-4 pancreatic cancer Apr 02, 2014
MURRIETA, Calif. —It was a day she’ll never forget.
An 11-year-old girl from California walked down the aisle with her dying dad in a tear-jerking ceremony that pronounced the pair "daddy and daughter," ABC News reported.
"It was not easy to do, let me tell you, but I wouldn't change it for the world," said Jim Zetz, 62, who has stage-4 pancreatic cancer and is expected to live only a few more months.
"In 20 years, when she really gets married, she's going to be happy that happened," he said.
A photographer close to the Zetz family arranged the mock wedding as a surprise, to give Jim the chance to celebrate a milestone he'll likely miss as his cancer progresses.
The idea of having children at age 51 seems preposterous to me. I don't want to seem uncaring, since I don't know the details here, but I lost my first wife at age 53 to breast cancer and know well the mortality we are all facing.

I agree. The odds of leaving young children behind because you assumed room temp raise exponentially when you are this old. This is why my wife still spins off the rails when the topic of Tony Randall comes up and him having kids so late in life.

Well, guys, I had my last child, number 9, when I was in my 50s and he's a fine strapping lad, high school football player, and now on his way to college. I would have had a number 10 but unfortunately my wife miscarried and had to have a hysterectomy. I love all my kids and am grateful for each and every one.

The issue isn't that the kid will make out OK. The issue is that the odds of you checking out are far higher. Average male life expectancy is 75.

I am VERY glad for your health and only hope the best for you. Of course! My comment was a generalization based on my own personal experience with what happens to us all and the increased mortality rate as we age. My children have lost their mother. We had our first when I was 23 and our last [#4] when I was 31. It happens and you can't avoid it, that's all. It isn't always the case, generalizations are just that, not always the case.

You Betcha. Wherever you go it leads to trouble. As it stands, you are responsible for getting me kicked off of 4 forums so far and I can see the crowd turning on me here now too.
It hasn't been all bad though. I was glad to get kicked off of that lame "Odd Quiche Ingredient" forum. How many times can you talk about avocados?
