In this day and age allowing women to avoid the draft may seem anachronistic but the Repubs doing this is good with me as I don't want our daughters being forced into combat, and that will be the next step.

In truth I am not fond of the draft for either sex but especially not for females.

I respectfully disagree. I've been listening to women whine FOR DECADES about glass ceilings [one of the reasons female officers wanted women in combat arms], equality, the Patriarchy ad nauseam. Sorry, Ladies, you're still pissin' and moanin', so pardon my French, but "Man Up". You don't get to pick and choose what equality you get. you pay to play. In fact I think there ought to be a class action discrimination suit on behalf of men - who have borne all but an infantesimal load of the fighting for the two hundred plus years of the Republic. Let the damsels do the fighting for a couple of centuries. Since the Army is now a cross between a jobs training program and a social experiment, combat effectiveness is not the issue. Politics is. About time the ladies put up or shut up.

Insofar as the draft in general, I favor it. [1] It denotes civic responsibility. I remember that during the entire Viet Nam War, eight [8] Harvard grads died. And they should be honored. But a school that claims to furnish our leaders should not. Saw a poll of millennials that said they favored military action in the Middle East, but 85% said they wouldn't serve. It keeps a society, and a military subordinate to civilian rule healthy with a draft. Does the draftees good, too.

[2] China and Russia are on the horizon. Then there's batshit crazy North Korea, and the Mad Mullahs. You're not going to beat those bastards with a SEAL Team and some smart bombs. You're gonna need a draft.

The most militaristic of the ancients, the Romans, didn't. The Bible contains no records of female combatants. Individual acts of courage like Jael, perhaps, but no women brigades.

This movement to force women to share the manly burden of protector is straight out of the Marxist playbook which in the name of radical equalitarianism demands equivalence of the sexes despite any biological differences. It is wrong and it is yet another attempt to remake Western cultural standards.

I know the courts have said this amendment does not apply to the draft, but I don't know why. It is still "involuntary servitude" no matter how it is justified and an egregious example of how Leviathan treats its subjects as things. Besides our courts have done a lot of very weird things. Moreover, PzLdr, is a country worth defending when people won't voluntarily defend it?

The draft is a bad thing. Drafting women is even worse.

Actually, it appears the Amazons weren't a legend, and the Greeks met them. They were Scythians from the Southern Ukrainian Steppe, and bodies of females have been found with weapons and horse skeletons. And , in the societies you cite, women didn't have, nor clamor for full rights. Times have changed. I, for one, am not giving women a pass on this. They represent the majority of college students, degree holders, post grad degree holders, and still cling to both Title IX and victim status. Yet few voice concern over the plight of boys in grade and High school, laboring in a teaching method keyed to girls, and drugged up to keep them calm. Colleges with their skewed 'justice' system are a hostile environment for men. So, Ladies, pay up, or shut up. And for all the women opposed to drafting women, lets hear you speak out against all the free rides.

I think both of you have points.

As a woman I certainly would not have wanted to be drafted (but then again many men fall into that category also, and thank you for your service Cincy!) But I have to say for those feminists who are always out there yelling and screaming about rights and that glass ceiling, PzLdr has a point here. You reap what you sow.

But I have to agree with Cincinnatus that women just don't have (biologically speaking) the strength that men have so not sure this is a good plan for most women or most of our daughters. And many men still have that protective instinct and would be distracted on the battlefield trying to protect the women in his unit -- which isn't going to end well.

Then I've read the recent articles coming out of Syria/Iraq where the ISIS nutballs are actually AFRAID of the women kurds who are fighting. It seems that within Islam to be killed by a woman will NOT get you into paradise let alone those anticipated virgins. So.......do that math. Heh. With that thought we need to have at lease SOME all female combat units to go after these guys.

So in my analysis, some female combat units may be desirable, but they should be ALL-female units. They should not be intermixed so as to be a distraction. And its not just the Kurds. Israel has required its women to do at least some military service for a long time now. Plus I continue to believe a volunteer military is still more desirable than drafting people.

But at the end of the day the volunteer military isn't going to last long as they continue to be decimated with budget cuts, and the social engineering experiments that we've been seeing for the last decade which is weakening our military. Who wants to join up with that stuff going on?

But you both raise some valid points. Carry on!
