Conservative talk radio host and Ted Cruz supporter Mark Levin devoted ten minutes of his Thursday radio program to laying out the case that Donald Trump is not a true conservative, and that his willingness to compromise on basic issues is a bad omen for a potential Trump presidency.
Levin begins descibing Trump's apathetic reaction to North Carolina's 'bathroom bill'. "Leave it the way it is," Trump said. "People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
Levin disagreed. "This should be a no brainer for a conservative," Levin said about supporting the state bill forcing people to use the restrooms corresponding to their biological birth gender. "This should be a no brainer for any rational person."
Ted Cruz was similarly perplexed today by Trump's support for the transgender right to go to the bathroom of their choice, wondering: Have we gone stark raving nuts? Grown adult men, strangers, should not be alone in a bathroom with little girls...
Levin said that Trump's willingness to compromise on such a basic issue proves that his talk about being a conservative was just an "act," put on to win the Republican primary, and now that the primary has moved on to "liberal states" like Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania -- Trump is going to start "acting" nore liberal.
"I'm just telling you folks something. Should he be the nominee, I honestly believe we're going to get crushed. This is just my opinon. His negatives are so damn high. Even with white males... But should he win. Many of you are going to be very disappointed. He will resort to the dealmaking. And dealmaking without principles is a very dangerous thing," Levin concluded.
******* “We cannot continue to allow ourselves to be influenced and molded by the political class and by the media. That is going to destroy us," he said, remarking that it's "kind of sad" that the press is the only business protected by the Constitution "because they were supposed to be the allies of the people." Mark has been sounding a man possessed the last couple of months. I used to listen faithfully, now I can't change the channel fast enough.
Just for a little experiment, I checked in on him every 20 minutes or so last week. Sure enough, every time I did he was literally ranting and foaming at the mouth over the monster Trump.
I guess he has no staffer brave enough to tell him he's become a complete turn-off to a large portion of his listenership?
Mark Levin - as most who have heard of him know - served in the Reagan Administration. He believes - as I do - that Reagan was probably the best post WWII president we've had, and would probably rank among the top 5 in our history.
But as great as Reagan was, he was not perfect nor was his administration. Did the government grow during Reagan's watch? Yes.
Did Reagan nominate some clunkers to the Supreme Court? Yes - O'Connor and Kennedy.
Mark Levin does not - it seems - recognize just how much the Ruling Party Ds and Rs have changed the electorate of the country with its open borders policy and cradle to grave socialism. When Reagan was first nominated in 1980, the electorate was center-right. Think of a football gridiron, with the 50 yard line being the political center - we were likely somewhere between the 40 and 45 yard line of the RIGHT team.
In 36 short years, we've moved well past the 50 yard line and we're likely now center-left - somewhere between the 40 and 45 yard line of the LEFT team.
Like everyone else, Mark Levin has an agenda. He's backing Ted Cruz in this election, as the next Ronald Reagan. That's fine - that's his prerogative, and I have no problem with his doing that. But I don't find Levin convincing in explaining just how Ted Cruz will win the General election. What state(s) will he win that McClown or Romney didn't win?
How will a CONSERVATIVE (who even Levin admits does not have Reagan's charm and charisma) win over an electorate that is far more left than it was when Reagan ran?
Levin apparently still believes the political system and Constitution is salvageable - as a national talk-show host, I suppose he HAS to believe that. I on the other hand do not believe it. All the evidence I need is the fact that Zero was elected twice, and now a criminal stands a good chance of succeeding him.
So I opt for the figurative "bomb thrower" in Trump. Since the system is broken and corrupt anyway, we might as well roll the dice and see what happens.
