Actually I'm not concerned with Cruz setting up a theocracy. No one person could do that and I doubt anyone believe it could be done. What I'm concerned that Cruz is an unstable kind of Christian whose motivations aren't fully known. I'm glad he prays. I pray too and I asses situations as to whether or not they are God's will, the best I can.

But what's Ted Cruz doing? His father tells us in a [braggadocio?] style TV event how God spoke to them and sealed the deal for them. God told them things, but how do we know for sure that this experience was not the ambitions of an unstable person? It's so subjective and yet claims an absolute authority.

You believe him Sanguine. I don't want to be faced with having to decide on that choice. Keep that personal info to yourself!!! If you trot it out, what's your purpose? The biblical principle is those who do this are getting their reward, which is the praise of men.
I'd rather he did his praying quietly and held his results from prayer in his heart, [as Mary "pondered"] personally, according to the New Testament teaching of Jesus in Matthew 6.

Jesus taught prayer is to be a personal thing, between the believer and God, not to be bragged about on public TV. Rev Cruz told of their two hour prayer meeting with the Pastor and the family in which God spoke to them clearly that Ted should run for President.

I'm no fan of TV religion. And as mentioned I have my doubts about public sharing about private and personal aspects of your spiritual life in a way that aligns God on your side.

When I see Cruz making a pitch for himself, his delivery reminds me of a funeral director and brings me back to Richard Nixon in an uncomfortable way. I've been fooled into thinking that a person of faith is ideal for our leader. I'm more discriminating now. I watched Nixon. I watched Jimmy Carter. I've watched W. All proclaimed a faith. Reagan was a person of faith but he was private about it. And his leadership skills coupled with a personal private faith were very effective. A person's leadership skills rank right up there for me. I want a moral person with convictions. I don't want a preacher with Kenneth Copeland skills saying things he believes with all his heart are true and from God, guiding us with that skill set.

What would happen would be more subtle than a declared theocracy. We do not have a declared Moslem state nor declared Sharia, yet many aspects of the same are enforced today in our society.
Islam is officially a RELIGION of peace.

Point out that Islam is an entire totalitarian system system encompassing all aspects of society including but not limited to law, finance, and you are guilty of racism, xenophobia and a hate crime.

Crosses at Catholic University are covered so as not to offend.

Groups that sponsor terrorism against Christian, Jews, and the wrong type of Moslems server as advisors to the upper level of government.

Our military overseas must ignore child rape and sexual slavery or face disciplinary action from the military.

There are physicians promoting making female genital mutilation acceptable.

Moslem bakers can refuse services to homosexual weddings but Christians can't or they will be prosecuted.

Moslem cab drivers are allowed to refuse service to blind people with guide dogs. Christian cab drivers aren't.

the same methods that allowed this to happen could be used to enforce many aspects of a a theocracy with out declaring one. everything is in place just change the terrorist and hate crime du jour. How many times has the definition of terrorist, in particular domestic terrorist changed since 9/11 ?

Algernon, I'm going to be blunt; I don't know how else to do it. Ted Cruz is not some backwoods hellfire and brimstone preacher going to Washington to save our souls. (And, if some one were really interested in saving our souls, Washington is not the place to be.) This scurrilous piece by Denninger did not even present a good argument that he could be. You are taking this and a few other pieces from those odd corners of the internet that one can wander into on occasion if not careful and building a case that Cruz is some weird religious nut. Just ain't so.

Let me try, and you tell me where I'm off the tracks.

Denninger is concerned about data analytics and their use. A concern I share by the way, and I would compare it to the Tower of Babel if I were looking for a Biblical comparison. Cruz's campaign along with others have and are using big data analytics to shape elections.

You are concerned about the type of Christianity that Cruz practices, that his father practices and what the influence on our nation would be if, God willing, Cruz were elected President.

I'm curious. Where did you get this information?
On tech sites I have read, the only other candidate who could afford and used data-analytics in the same manner as Cruz is Obama.

Is the everybody does excuse okay for someone who is basing their campaign on being the only true conservative and originalist constitutional lawyer/scholar?

Do you continue to see Cruz's use of data-analytics as:
"Yes, sounds very sinister, but is simply effective targeting."
Cruz campaign credits psychological data and analytics for its rising success .

How does the use of intrusive private data square with Cruz's claims of fighting for our privacy rights?
