This should be interesting. Back a hundred plus years ago, a famous quote said "You don't pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel" (Regarding someone having a feud with the Hearst Newspapers - the "Fox News" of that era.)

At first glance, I don't see this as being a "good thing" for Trump - but he's defied conventional wisdom thus far, so we shall see.

May not be a good thing, but I don't know that he had a choice. They were clearly how to trap him, and he knew it.
