Every once in a while Dr. Carson comes up with one of these ideas that makes me go what ???
The department of education already monitors for 'extreme bias' using the PC progressive definition.
Carson Would Use Education Department to Monitor Colleges for 'Extreme Political Bias' Leah Barkoukis | Oct 21, 2015
GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson sat down with Glenn Beck on his radio show Wednesday for a rapid-fire, yes-or-no interview. Beck covered everything from immigration reform to climate change, but it was the former neurosurgeon’s response to a question on education reform that stood out as a unique perspective among the current GOP field
When asked whether he would shut down the Department of Education, Carson responded, “I actually have something I would use the Department of Education to do.”
“Would it be to pack boxes for the State Department, the IRS?” Beck jokingly replied.
“No, it would be to monitor our institutions of higher education for extreme political bias and deny federal funding if it exists,” he said.
“I like that,” Beck responded.
Some in the GOP have advocated shutting the entire department down, while others, like Donald Trump, have suggested cutting it down significantly.
"GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson sat down with Glenn Beck on his radio show Wednesday for a rapid-fire, yes-or-no interview..."
One can do a "rapid fire" interview with Dr Carson? Who woulda thought?
Now while I find his plan to use the Ed Dept for a needed and unique purpose, I must disagree with him. The Dept is simply unConstitutional and must be abolished.

While freedom of speech needs to be restored to college campuses a federal agency monitoring for extreme political bias is definitely not the way to go.
First of all who defines 'extreme political bias' ? the latest yahoo from the accusation of uniparty ? Currently extremism is used to shut down un PC free speech.
Per Ron Paul's proposed budget in2012 closing the Department of Education would save $71,333 million a nice chunk of change
There are times when the good doctor does not seem to realize the dangers of handling unconstitutional powers over to the government. It's as if he has a blind spot that allows perceived 'good intentions' to over ride limitations on government power. He seems blind to the concept of never handing over to the government power you would not give to your enemy.
