Older people do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains, scientists believe.

Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full up, so to do humans take longer to access information, it has been suggested.

Researchers say this slowing down it is not the same as cognitive decline.

“The human brain works slower in old age,” said Dr. Michael Ramscar, “but only because we have stored more information over time

“The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more.”

I have long suspected that this is the case. There's so much stored stuff, it takes longer to sort and access it.

Moral of the story...stay stupid. You will be quicker on your feet with the few things you know, like using a fork and operating a doorknob.

I have an external hard drive. It's called "wife".

She remembers word for word every conversation, every act, every disagreement we have ever had. Since she only brings up such matters when she wants to get her way, or to win an argument, I sometimes think she makes it up as she goes along; but since I have completely forgotten whatever I said to her the afternoon of our third anniversary, or on Groundhog Day 2009, or ever, I have to accept her version of events.
