ZitatHouse Freedom Caucus member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Thursday morning that the $1.3 trillion spending bill the House will pass today is among the worst he's ever seen, and said it ignores the GOP's biggest campaign promise: building a border wall.
"The one thing we don't fund is the one issue we all campaigned on, a border security wall, and that is not in the legislation," he said on Fox News.
Under the bill agreed to by GOP and Democratic leaders, the Trump administration can spend money on new fencing along the border, but can't build a concrete wall, and can't deploy any new technology to help secure the border.
Jordan and other conservatives railed against the bill Wednesday night, not only for the spending boost it gives the government, but for the short timeframe lawmakers have to digest the bill and vote on it.
Several deficit hawks said Wednesday that Republicans have effectively lost control of the spending debate with the bill, which will add more to the soaring $21 trillion national debt.
"It's 2,200 pages that funds sanctuary cities, funds Planned Parenthood, restricts Second Amendment liberties, and grows the government at a $1.3 trillion price tag on this legislation, which will lead to a $1 trillion deficit," Jordan said on Fox.
"Now, I don't think the American people said, 'Oh, let's put Republicans in control of Congress to do a bill like this,'" he added.
"This may be the worst bill I have seen in my time in Congress, the worst bill our leaders have ever allowed to come to the floor," Jordan said.
"Several deficit hawks said Wednesday that Republicans have effectively lost control of the spending debate with the bill, which will add more to the soaring $21 trillion national debt."
Lost control ?? That would imply most Republicans actually attempted to control spending. It was more like tit for tat - I'll get this place at the trough and you can have that space.
