NJ Town Renames 'Kennedy Center' To 'Obama Center']
And the residents aren't very happy about it...

My9NJ has a report on a town in New Jersey and their plan to change the name of their recreation center from "Kennedy Center" to "Obama Center."
The Willingboro City Council made the claim that President Obama "had a major impact on the city" and their residents were clamoring for the change. But when reporter Bill Anderson asked residents of the neighborhood surrounding the center he got a different impression. "I found indifference, I found some opposition, but I didn't find a whole lot of excitement,"Anderson said.
“I love my president, I appreciate him, but why does that need to be reflected on the center?” Beulah, an African-American resident told Anderson. “Maybe they should call it the Obama/Kennedy center, I don't know,” added Francetta.
It's bad enough that a building would be named after a president while he's still serving in office. Can you imagine if schools had been named after Richard Nixon in 1972? But to remove Kennedy's name and replace it with Obama's while the President is suffering under the lowest public opinion poll numbers in his entire presidency smacks more of liberal politicians trying to force a positive legacy onto a reluctant community.
Here's another one I just had to follow up on. According to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willingboro...hip,_New_Jersey, this was a Levittown town development. Originally Levittowns prohibited blacks from purchasing homes in their communities but that was ended by legal challenge in the early 60s. Hence today (2010 census), " The racial makeup of the township was 17.31% (5,475) White, 72.74% (23,007) Black or African American, 0.37% (117) Native American, 2.01% (635) Asian, 0.03% (10) Pacific Islander, 3.12% (988) from other races, and 4.42% (1,397) from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 8.65% (2,737) of the population.[7].
In addition the population of the town has declined in every census from 1970 to 2010, from 43,386 to 31,629. Gee, I wonder why, though this movement to rename its rec center may offer a clue.
