Kevin Spacey has decided to address decades-long speculation over his sexuality following an allegation that he made “a sexual advance” on a 14-year-old actor back in 1986.

In a new interview, Anthony Rapp alleges that when he was working on Broadway the same time as Spacey was, he was invited to a party at his apartment.

However, towards the end of the night, Rapp claims to BuzzFeed that Spacey picked him up, placed him on his bed and climbed on top of him, making a “sexual advance”.

Rapp was 14 at the time, while Spacey was 26 years old.

“My memory was that I thought, Oh, everybody’s gone. Well, yeah, I should probably go home,” Rapp alleges in the interview.

“He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ’What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.”

Rapp continued: “He was trying to seduce me. I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”

At 46 years old, Rapp still struggles when he sees Spacey now.


“My stomach churns,” he said. “I still to this day can’t wrap my head around so many aspects of it. It’s just deeply confusing to me.”

Spacey addressed the allegation in a statement posted on Twitter where, for the first time, he comes out publicly as a gay man.

“I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fuelled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy,” Spacey said.

“As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man.
