A Nebraska Democrat has been kicked out of his position after a recording caught him saying he was glad Rep. Steve Scalise was shot and hoping for his death.
Phil Montag, the volunteer co-chairman for the party’s technology committee, was the voice heard in a recording that surfaced online slamming the Louisiana Republican after he was attacked at a Virginia baseball practice last week.
“His whole job is to get people, convince Republicans to f---ing kick people off f---ing health care. I hate this motherf---er, I’m glad he got shot,” Montag said in a recording published by the blog Talk Real Solutions.
“I wish he was f---ing dead,” he added later.

The attack, where a lobbyist and two police officers were also shot, has been followed for calls to tone down hateful rhetoric after gunman James Hodgkinson’s history of opposition to Republicans led some to suspect he was targeting them for their politics.
Nebraska Democratic Party chair Jane Kleeb told KETV that the comments were “disgusting” and that Montag was moved out as soon as party leaders learned about them.
