NASCAR to fans: No more Confederate flags at our races, okay? posted at 4:01 pm on July 2, 2015 by Allahpundit
If we’re going to purge “The Dukes of Hazzard,” we might as well get Confederate flags out of American car culture entirely, I guess.
For once, I think this is more than mindless corporate piggybacking on a social trend. According to a study done last year, NASCAR has a whiter audience than any other major American sport. Yes, really: At 94 percent, it’s even whiter than the NHL’s (slightly) and the PGA’s. Having the rebel flag in the infield won’t help change that.
Zitat “As members of the NASCAR industry, we join NASCAR in the desire to make our events among the most fan-friendly, welcoming environments in all of sports and entertainment.
“To do that, we are asking our fans and partners to join us in a renewed effort to create an all-inclusive, even more welcoming atmosphere for all who attend our events. This will include the request to refrain from displaying the Confederate Flag at our facilities and NASCAR events.
“We are committed to providing a welcoming atmosphere free of offensive symbols. This is an opportunity for NASCAR Nation to demonstrate its sense of mutual respect and acceptance for all who attend our events while collectively sharing the tremendous experience of NASCAR racing.”
The flag’s not banned outright but Daytona’s offering fans the Stars and Stripes this weekend in exchange for whatever flag they might happen to bring to the track. Given the scope of the overreaction these past two weeks, I wonder how many will bring Confederate flags anyway out of pure defiance.
I am not sure this is a wise business move. NASCAR has its historical roots in the South and many of its fans are Southeners. I wonder if they will take this as an insult to their cultural heritage and PC bs infiltrating their chosen sport.
To complete the PC circle NASCAR is also severing ties with Trump.
"DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR is the latest corporation to distance itself from Donald Trump.
On the same day one of its top sponsors called on NASCAR to take a stance against Trump, the motorsports series said it will not hold its season-ending awards ceremony at the Trump National Doral Miami.
NASCAR spokesman David Higdon says "we looked at everything we saw coming down and what we heard from our sponsors and our partners and what we feel we should be doing, and that's what led us to the decision today."
Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis, whose company is the title sponsor of NASCAR's Truck Series, said in a letter released Friday that he would not attend or participate in the awards ceremony if it's held at a Trump property. The ceremony was held at Doral last year.
NASCAR and Camping World are the latest to distance themselves from Trump following his inflammatory statements regarding immigrants from Mexico."
"Kathryn Steinle, 32, was out for a walk on San Francisco waterfront with her father when she was shot and killed, seemingly at random. The only suspect in custody is an illegal alien with an extensive criminal history who had been previously deported five times, according to federal immigration officials.
What’s worse is that Immigration and Customs Enforcement says that San Francisco police had the suspect, Francisco Sanchez, in custody earlier this year but didn’t report him to immigration officials, according to NBC Bay Area.
“DHS records indicate ICE lodged an immigration detainer on the subject at that time, requesting notification prior to his release so ICE officers could make arrangements to take custody. The detainer was not honored,” ICE said in a statement Friday.
San Francisco became a “sanctuary city” in 2011 and proclaimed it would end its cooperation with federal officials and not hold illegals, picked up on minor crimes, for deportation.
In an interview with NBC Bay Area San Francisco, county sheriff’s legal counsel Freya Horne said that the city and county are sanctuaries for illegals and don’t turn them over to ICE unless they have active warrants.
Horne acknowledged that letting Sanchez, arrested Wednesday for the murder of Steinle, out of jail without charging him for marijuana sales on April 15 was a “shame,” NBC Bay Area reported.
“It’s a tragedy,” she said. “We all recognize that. But we followed city policy.”
That ought to be a big comfort to Steinle’s family who now have to plan their daughter’s funeral.
Sanchez has seven felony convictions, mostly on drug charges, across several states including Texas, Oregon and Arizona but apparently that isn’t enough for San Francisco to hand him over to immigration officials and get him out of the country."
