"Oregon fire crews face jeopardy from a forest of dead trees

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Crews mobilizing to fight a new fire in southwestern Oregon face a danger left over from a major fire 13 years ago: dead, standing trees that could fall on them.

Those dead trees are called snags, and they’re always a danger for fire crews working in the woods.

But the extensive Biscuit Fire of 2002 left behind what fire spokeswoman Pam Sichting called a multitude of snags."

"Thank your enviro nazi friends for this. The biscuit fire burns billions of dollars worth of trees owned by the American people. Salvage companies offer to recover billions of board feet of wood not destroyed in the fire. Tree Huggers fight them in the courts and "win". Salvage would have removed dead or dying trees and replanted the landscape. Today we'd have forest of 15 year old trees. Instead we have snags that may kill a firefighter or a hiker.
