Trump calls Democrat Congressman Elijah Cummings a 'brutal bully' and claims his Baltimore district is a 'disgusting, rat infested mess' that is 'far worse' and 'MORE dangerous' than the southern border

President Donald Trump has slammed Rep. Elijah Cummings as 'a brutal bully,' saying that the congressman's Baltimore district is a 'rat and rodent infested mess.'

Trump's remarks in a series of tweets from the White House on Saturday morning referenced the House Oversight Committee Chairman's harsh remarks at a hearing earlier this month.

It also follows Cummings' move to subpoena new White House records on Thursday, and a Saturday morning segment on Fox and Friends contrasting Cumming's concern for migrants at the border with conditions in his own district.

'Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA,' Trump wrote.
**********

'As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming [sic] District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place,' the president continued.

Trump added: 'Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States.

'No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!'

It comes a week after Cummings exploded at Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan over conditions in facilities used to detain migrants and house unaccompanied migrant children at the southern border.

'What does that mean, when a child is sitting in their own feces, can't take a shower!' Cummings shouted at McAleenan in the July 18 hearing. 'Come on man, what's that about?'

Cummings' remarks were highlighted in a segment on Fox and Friends on Saturday morning, which Trump possibly watched from the White House.

In the segment, Kimberly Klacik, a Republican strategist from Baltimore, spoke about appalling conditions that residents in parts of the city face.

'There is a crisis at the border, but there is also a crisis in Baltimore,' Klacik said. 'Congressman Cummings represents the most dangerous district in America.'

'There's abandoned row homes filled with trash, homeless addicts, empty needles that they have used, and it's really right next door so it's attracting cockroaches, rodents, you name it,' said Klacik.

'So to have Congressman Cummings talk about conditions at the border is just laughable, because of the conditions in his own district, and a lot of people say he hasn't even been there in a while,' she continued.

Klacik had recent posted a series of videos on Twitter of a visit to West Baltimore and her conversations with residents pleading for help dealing with vacant and abandoned homes, trash and poor water service.

The wife of House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings is facing new allegations of self-dealing and perjury following the disclosure of financial dealings between her charity and her for-profit consulting firm, according to an IRS complaint a watchdog group filed Friday in response to a Daily Caller News Foundation report.

The National Legal and Policy Center’s complaint is an amendment to its original May 20 complaint against Maya Rockeymoore Cummings’s charity, the Center for Global Policy Solutions (CGPS), which alleged that the nonprofit’s overlapping relationship with her for-profit company, Global Policy Solutions, LLC, could have derived an “illegal private benefit” for her and her husband.

The NLPC’s amended complaint filed Friday highlights the charity’s audited financial reports, first reported by TheDCNF, which detail how it paid Rockeymoore Cummings’s for-profit venture over $250,000 in “management fees” between 2013 and 2015.

The DCNF’s report on the arrangement “increases the imperative for an immediate Internal Revenue Service investigation,” the NLPC stated in its amended complaint.

In 2015 Bernie Sanders campaigning for president declared West Baltimore to be like a "Third World" country.

[Bernie knew back then.... Trump calls it out today! TM]

Hoping to reach African-American voters nationally in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday toured the West Baltimore neighborhood where Freddie Gray was arrested — and likened the poverty he observed to that of the Third World.

The independent senator, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, walked the streets of Sandtown-Winchester for about 20 minutes, joined by community leaders and a swarm of cameras that mostly blocked his view of boarded rowhomes and crumbling marble steps. A handful of residents joined the spectacle, and occasionally broke out in chants of Gray's name.

The scene provided dramatic visuals of the economic inequality Sanders has made the center of his campaign, offering a new backdrop from which to argue for a higher minimum wage, tuition-free public college and tougher federal regulations of the nation's banking sector.

"Anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you're in a wealthy nation," Sanders told reporters later at the Freddie Gray Empowerment Center in Bolton Hill. "You would think that you were in a Third World country."

But Sanders' anti-poverty message was largely overshadowed by his reluctance to discuss the subject on which politicians, the news media and the public have focused in recent days: terrorism and the self-declared Islamic State.

[Most read] Better to have a few rats than to be one »
Before the news conference began, a campaign spokeswoman tried to wave reporters off asking Sanders about ISIS, arguing it was off-topic.

When a reporter ignored the request, Sanders appeared agitated.

"What about ISIS, guys?" Sanders said. "Of course I'll talk about ISIS."

Sanders then shifted back almost immediately to domestic policy.

"But today what we're talking about is a community in which half of the people don't have jobs," he said. "We're talking about a community in which there are hundreds of buildings that are uninhabitable."

Don't confuse everyone the facts Mr Trump. There's an accepted narrative that you don't seem to know. Words like "vibrant American City", "patriot" and "hero" should always be used when describing Elijah Cummings and his district.

'Neighborhoods are crying out': Baltimore has highest homicide rate of U.S. big cities

By LUKE BROADWATER and IAN DUNCAN, SEP 25, 2018

Baltimore had the worst homicide rate among the nation’s 50 largest cities last year and the second-highest violent crime rate overall, according to new data from the FBI.

The grim news was the latest reminder of the sustained cycle of violence that has gripped the city since 2015, when the annual number of homicides soared above 300 for three consecutive years after the unrest that followed Freddie Gray’s death from injuries suffered in police custody.

There were 342 homicides in Baltimore last year, 56 per 100,000 people who live in the city. That’s the highest per capita in the city’s history and, according to the FBI report Monday, the highest rate of any American city with more than 500,000 people. It’s also significantly higher than the rate in other big cities.

“Sometimes it does seem, I won’t say hopeless, but there are neighborhoods that are crying out,” said Councilman John Bullock, whose West and Southwest Baltimore district has seen some of the worst violence.

Mayor Catherine Pugh said Tuesday that she has been attempting to curb the killings by attacking the root causes of poverty and lack of opportunity that fuel the violent drug trade. So far this year, the number of killings is down 15 percent from last year.

“Our efforts to reduce violent crime are producing clear results,” Pugh said. “Crime is declining in every category.”

Pugh said even greater gains have been recorded in neighborhoods she has tagged as part of a Violence Reduction Initiative. Such areas receive a surge of city resources, ranging from fixing street lights to employment services.

“We are not satisfied and are determined to reduce crime and violence much more,” Pugh said. “One murder in Baltimore is one murder too many. But I am convinced that by addressing the root causes that give rise to hopelessness and eventually to criminal activity, we will make Baltimore safer for all residents.”

Detroit, which had the highest overall violent crime rate for 2017, ranked No. 2 in homicides, with 40 per 100,000 people. Memphis, Tenn., followed (28 homicides per 100,000), then Chicago (24 per 100,000), Philadelphia (20 per 100,000) and Milwaukee (20 per 100,000). The FBI defines violent crime as a combination of murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

So far this year, there have been 216 homicides in Baltimore.

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan called the FBI data “shocking and disappointing, but it doesn’t come as a complete surprise.”

Hogan said a joint operation with city and state police and the U.S. Marshals Service this year resulted in hundreds of arrests of violent offenders — including 259 of the city’s “most violent criminals.” He noted tougher sentencing laws the General Assembly passed this year for repeat offenders take effect Monday.

Violence in Baltimore is “something we’ve been focused on from day one,” Hogan said. “We just passed some tough, new crime laws that are going to take effect Oct. 1, tougher sentences for people who commit gun crimes, tougher sentences on repeat violent offenses. I’ve been criticizing judges for lenient sentences and letting repeat violent offenders out.”

Despite this year’s declines, the governor called crime in Baltimore a “problem that's not going away.”

“The city’s got to invest more,” Hogan said. “The mayor’s got to be more focused. We’re going to continue to back them up as much as we possibly can.”

USA Today names Baltimore 'the nation's most dangerous city'

Hogan’s Democratic challenger, former NAACP President Ben Jealous, said he didn’t want to blame any individual leader for the crime problem. Jealous said killings in jurisdictions outside the city also have risen, by an average of 34 percent.

If elected governor, Jealous said, he would help bring crime down by funding more violence-intervention programs like Safe Streets, which employs ex-offenders to mediate disputes, and by providing funds for city police to bolster their homicide investigations.

“New York has brought down crime substantially by scaling up violence intervention programs,” Jealous said.

The data are presented in the 2017 edition of the FBI’s annual Crime in the United States report, which relies on statistics reported by local law enforcement agencies.

Baltimore searches for answers after city breaks its record for killings per capita in 2017

JAN 01, 2018 | 11:30 AM
Rather than comparing this year’s crime decline to 2017, City Councilman Brandon Scott argued, city officials should look to 2014. That’s the last year when fewer than 300 people were killed in Baltimore.

Scott, who chairs the Council’s Public Safety Committee, said the current levels of violence can’t be accepted.

“The new normal should be the opposite,” he said. “The new normal should be us beating those record levels we saw a few years ago.”

Baltimore’s new deputy police commissioner gets mugged at gunpoint
By Lee Brown, July 22, 2019

A new deputy police commissioner in Baltimore got a firsthand lesson in the city’s crime problems — getting robbed at gunpoint while out with his wife, according to reports.

Deputy Commissioner Daniel Murphy had only started with the force in April after being brought in from New Orleans to help lead sweeping reforms, according to the Baltimore Sun.

He was robbed at 9 p.m. Friday by four men in a white SUV near Patterson Park, according to the Sun.

Two of the men, said to be about 18, jumped out and approached Murphy and his wife, showing a gun during the holdup, police said in a release.

They fled with multiple cellphones, the officer’s wallet and his wife’s purse as well as some cash, the reports state. No one was injured, police say.

Murphy was one of the first top deputies hired earlier this year by new Commissioner Michael Harrison after they worked together in New Orleans, according to the Sun.

He was sure that Baltimore would be like the Big Easy, he told the paper after starting his new gig in April.

“Obviously, every community, every police department is unique, but the success we had in New Orleans is directly transferable to here and we will modify it as necessary,” he said.

The robbery came just a month after the department launched a new “crime reduction strategy” that it said would “reduce the victimization and fear of victimization of violent crime in Baltimore City.”

There have been 185 homicides in the city so far this year, with 166 from shootings, according to the Sun, with only St. Louis having more murders per 100,000 people, according to a Pew Research Center study based on 2017 figures.

Elijah Cummings’s Wife Hit With New Allegations Of Self-Dealing And Perjury In Updated IRS Complaint

ANDREW KERR, June 07, 2019

TheDCNF’s report on the arrangement “increases the imperative for an immediate Internal Revenue Service investigation,” the NLPC stated in its amended complaint. (RELATED: Elijah Cummings’s Wife Used Her Charity To Pay Her For-Profit Company, Documents Show)

The amended complaint states that Rockeymoore Cummings “appears to have been paid twice for the same services,” noting that she collects a “substantial full-time salary” from her charity on top of the 5% management fee it pays her for-profit venture.

For example, Rockeymoore Cummings earned a salary of $152,155 from her charity in 2015, according to its Form 990 tax return that year. Also in 2015, her charity paid her consulting firm $78,178 in “management fees,” according to its audited financial statements.

“It’s self-dealing. It’s taking the charity’s resources and turning them into personal profits,” NLPC investigator Tom Anderson previously told TheDCNF. “IRS law doesn’t allow a charity for this purpose. This isn’t for the public interest, this is for her personal interest. You can’t do that.”

The NLPC’s amended complaint also alleges that Rockeymoore Cummings could have committed perjury by answering “no” in her charity’s 2015 tax return when asked if it conducted business with an entity owned by an officer or director of the charity.

“As a Director, Officer and Key Employee of CGPS at the same time she was the sole Governor of [Global Policy Solutions, LLC], Maya Rockeymoore Cummings should have answered ‘yes,'” the NLPC’s complaint states. “The false entry appears to be willful. Form 990 was signed by Maya Rockeymoore Cummings ‘under penalties of perjury.'”

Multiple nonprofit experts previously told TheDCNF the 5% management fee Rockeymoore Cummings’s charity pays her private company raises red flags. Her charity is funded by companies with interests before her husband’s congressional committee, according to the Washington Examiner.

“It’s a red flag for a powerful member like Elijah Cummings to have a family member receiving money from entities with issues before his powerful committee,” said Scott Walter, the president of the conservative watchdog group Capital Research Center.

Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, listed his wife’s consulting firm on his most recent financial disclosure reports as an asset worth between $250,001 and $500,000.

Rockeymoore Cummings, who chairs the Maryland Democratic Party, said in May in response to the NLPC’s original complaint that her organizations “have been guided by legal and accounting professionals and comply with accepted industry and ethical standards.”
