BELTON (October 15, 2014) A North Belton Middle School student and a Sparta Elementary School student were on the same flight Monday as a Dallas nurse who tested positive for Ebola Tuesday night after caring for a man who was the first person diagnosed in the U.S. with the potentially deadly virus, Belton school officials confirmed late Wednesday afternoon.

During a news conference Wednesday evening Belton ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon assured parents that the two students are at low risk to themselves and to others and that it’s safe to send children to class Thursday.

“We anticipate that some parents will choose to keep their children at home,” she said.

No decision has been made on whether the absences of students who are kept home will be counted as excused or unexcused.

I looked at your source, Sanguine, and note there is a reader poll at the end of it.

Poll Results: The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has claimed more than 4,000 lives, but the death of a man who was diagnosed with the virus in Dallas has sparked concerns about the threat the disease could pose here. How worried are you about Ebola?

Very worried 53.31%

Worried 19.40%

Somewhat worried 16.99%

Not worried 10.30%

Total Responses - 2778

I mention this as some others on here may be interested in participating as did I. The results, too, are quite fascinating because even though it may not be a scientific poll, it is still representative of what one community is thinking. For the record I voted "worried".

"Schools in Texas and Ohio have put out an Amber alert, announcing they will close Thursday after some students and a staffer flew on the same plane as Ebola-stricken nurse Amber Vinson...

The Belton Independent School District in central Texas said three schools and some buses will close and be disinfected after finding out two students were also on Flight 1143.

The unnamed students, one from North Belton Middle School and another from Sparta Elementary, will be kept home over the next 21 days as a precaution. Belton Early Childhood School will also close because some preschoolers transfer through Sparta each day."

Cincy, history will probably show that this was an overreaction, but since it is clearly and painfully obvious that the US government has no interest in the well being of us or our children, and lies regularly, easily and with impunity, it may well be a reasonable reaction for now.

Oh, and: Texas health workers receiving orders to stay home

" DALLAS (AP) -- Dozens of health care workers who had contact with the man who died of Ebola in Dallas were asked Thursday to sign legal documents in which they agreed to stay home, as authorities across the nation ramped up efforts to limit the virus' spread.

The documents ask the 75 health care workers who had contact with Thomas Eric Duncan to agree not to go to public places or use mass transit, according to Judge Clay Jenkins, top administrator for Dallas County. The agreements are binding legal documents that can be enforced with a variety of remedies, Jenkins said, though he repeatedly declined to elaborate about specific punishments when asked by reporters and expressed confidence that everyone would comply."

Awful lot of quarantining going on for a disease that's not easy to catch.
