Shadow President? Obama Meets With South Korean President To Discuss Trump

Former President Barack Obama seems to be feeling nostalgic for his old job, meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in Monday for 40 minutes.

The Korea Herald reported that Moon spoke about his recent meetings with President Trump in Washington and asked Obama for his advice on how to improve that relationship.

The meeting came after Obama spoke at the Asian Leadership Conference and the Fourth Congress of Indonesian Diaspora in Jakarta. There he attacked Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate change accord.

“In Paris, we came together around the most ambitious agreement in history about climate change, an agreement that even with the temporary absence of American leadership can still give our children a fighting chance,” Obama said.

The former president had said before leaving office that he appreciated his predecessor George W. Bush’s silence during his tenure, but also contended that he’s “still a citizen and that carries with it duties and obligations.”

This citizen status has led to him to have an active post-presidential political life.

He appealed to members of Congress in May to have the “courage” to save Obamacare, and just a few weeks into President Trump’s tenure Obama put out a statement through his spokesman attacking Trump’s so-called “travel ban.”

President Trump and Obama have had a strained relationship. Trump has accused Obama of both spying on him and obstruction of justice.

President Moon Jae-in renewed his resolve to pursue sanctions and dialogue to tackle North Korea’s nuclear program during a meeting with former US President Barack Obama on Monday, saying now is the “last chance” for the regime to return to the negotiating table.

During the 40-minute talk, Moon shared the results of his recent summit with his incumbent US counterpart Donald Trump, asking for Obama’s advice on ways to advance the relationship. The former president stressed bipartisan US support for the alliance and wished Moon success in his presidency, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

“President Trump and I agreed to continue to apply sanctions and pressure to resolve the North’s nuclear and missile issues, while pursuing dialogue in parallel,” Moon was quoted as saying by his press secretary Yoon Young-chan.

What a cretin. Yeah, Obama, you do have "duties and obligations" among which are a requirement to follow precedence, keep your mouth shut, and quit acting like you have some role to play in American foreign policy. The American people have spoken and your candidate lost. Tough luck, old boy, but live with it.

Moon, too, is at fault. His meeting with Obama was a direct insult to our country and our President. So much for gratitude that America has kept his country independent for over 70 years. Congress ought seriously review any financial arrangements we have with SK and consider withdrawing our military support. Maybe they can get help from Obama.

"Moon, too, is at fault. His meeting with Obama was a direct insult to our country and our President."

It seems very odd that Moon would make such an obvious breach of protocol.

As I reread the article from the Korea Herald I noticed:
"The staunch Democrat also took a veiled swipe at Trump over his exit from the Paris climate accord, while defending globalization and the liberal global order in stark contrast to the hawkish Republican’s “America First” and “peace through strength” doctrine. "

Perhaps South Korea has its own variant of Fake News, i.e. making Trump look aggressive and Obama look like the peace maker.

I found a video:
