Anyone else watch it? My observations;

(1) Mike Pence gave one of the best political speeches I have ever heard and I've been around more than a few years.

(2) The speeches of Eric Trump and Newt Gingrich were both good, but not memorable.

(3) Ted Cruz started out to give a good speech, one typically intellectual in content. But he thoroughly blew it by failing to endorse Trump. Frankly I think that tonight he destroyed any chances he had of ever being a national candidate. He got booed off the stage and rumor has it he and his wife had to exit under tight security.

(4) Two other speeches of note were Laura Ingraham earlier in the evening, and Lynne Patton, a black woman who is VP of the Eric Trump Foundation. Ms Patton was very clean and articulate.

Agree with all your comments, Cincy.

I especially loved Laura's speech and thought Eric did very well considering he is a neophyte.

I was so distracted by the food fight that preceded Pence's speech that I couldn't give it my full attention. I will watch a re-run. It sounded like he did very well.

The Cruz-Trump thing was like something out of Shakespeare, or maybe a Greek myth. Troublesome Texans, hubris, the whole nine yards.

This whole convention is a loser. Ratings are down across the board from '08 and '12. It is filled with speeches from people no one gives a shit about. Anyone care what Natalie Gulbis or a drunk Mitch McConnell has to say about anything? This whole thing is like watching some cable access program in IA.

If it's a "loser" it's because the Republicans are learning to grow up. It may not be clear to you at the moment but when we look back we'll be able to see Trump's leadership style coming through.

I'm glad we didn't get Cruz as our nominee. It's not that I don't like most of what he says, I do. He's very smart, yet he has this flaw.

He fell short tonight when he played his "It's me or nobody" note.

He essentially gave his, "If I had won" speech. "Don't stay home in November." looked promising.

But "Vote your conscience up and down the ticket." certainly didn't cut it at the Republican convention.

He knows what he did. He did it on purpose. He's bitter inside and that wasn't appealing at all.

Trump pointed out he didn't uphold his pledge. Trump let him do it.

Cruz left the podium as a hold-out representative of the old guard who could not overcome his bitterness.

We'll look in the rear view mirror at this as Ted Cruz's missed opportunity. Trump isn't a fool for giving him this chance to shine. Trump as a leader gave Cruz that chance. He took a risk, but that's what the best leaders do.

Hmmm...a ratings loser? That's not what I heard on TV this morning.

Really, is there anyone who WON'T be watching tonight?

I'll bet even Frank Cannon will take a peek.

McLame and Romney had better ratings.....

http://money.cnn.com/2016/07/20/media/re...ention-ratings/

....numbers don't lie. We were also told this would be the most exciting and well run convention ever because Trump was running it. That is total bullshit. It is so disorganized that Steven Colbert walked up on stag to mock Trump without interruption from security for minutes.

Very much like a Greek myth - the self confidence which propelled him to national prominence turned out to be arrogance which has led to what I am certain is his political downfall.

How difficult would have been to endorse Trump as the current alternate to corrupt Hilary? Obviously way to difficult for Cruz's narcissism.

I think he may have proven himself to be an even bigger narcissist than Obama - and that's saying something since Obama is the Narcissist in Chief.

A narcissist with instruction from God. God told him that he was supposed to be the nominee. Then what happened?

God lied?, God was frustrated by crafty Donald Trump? It couldn't be Ted's own fault. Ted knows that!

[with all due respect to our #1 Ted Cruz fan who can't be dissuaded]

I just noticed your tagline(s), TM...and I agree.

Kind of reminds me of something I read about how we are "not able to pick our rebels." They don't come in a nice box tied with a pretty bow.

So it's either elect the killer or pray for the miracle as far as I'm concerned.

And for me the greatest irony in Cruz's self-immolation

is the fact that he's ONLY 45 years old!!! What are you thinking Ted???

Ted's playing this game with adults who are MORE THAN 20 YEARS OLDER THAN HE IS.

Which means if he'd played his cards right, he could have had a second, third or fourth chance for a bite at the apple.

DOAH!!!!! He's no JFK!!!

Thanks TK.

Donald Trump watched what happened to McCain and Romney as they both played the Mr. Nice Guy. It didn't work!

George W tried it with this new strain of amoral Dems and they simply ate his lunch. Time for some ruthlessness when needed! That's why we're hearing about "Crooked Hillary". We all know it's true. The Dem's tactics are simply being served up as food for them. Good idea Donald, is what I say.
