Retail giant Target has announced the hire of ex-Nordstrom executive Mark Tritton, amid the self-inflicted pain caused by a consumer rejection of its transgender-friendly bathrooms and changing rooms.

Tritton, the former president of Nordstrom Product Group, is joining Target as the chain’s new chief merchandising officer. He will oversee buying, merchandise sourcing, and product design and development and will spearhead the next phase of Target’s visual merchandising campaigns.

The change in the executive offices follows a massive boycott effort that spurred over 1.2 million customers to sign a petition criticizing the company’s decision to open its changing rooms and bathrooms to people of both sexes.

The chains denial of sexual privacy for its consumers seems to hurting its bottom line. With a stock-market value of $50.39 billion in February, Target’s market cap has been dropping steadily since it has announced its bathroom policy April 19. By the second week of May, the chain’s value had flattened to about $43.9 billion, down $6 billion from April 19.

Even as other retailers saw a drop in President Barack Obama’s floundering economy, Target’s 12 percent loss is greater than many other firms. Costco declined only 6 percent and Walmart fell just 6.9 percent during the same period.

Certainly some part of that loss is due to Obama’s weak economy–but no company is helped by so many management decisions that anger so many customers.

After a month of silence on the matter, Target’s CEO Brian Cornell finally came out to address the matter, but instead of staunching the flow of blood and backing off the policy he doubled down. It didn’t do Target much good as the same day Cornell addressed the issue Target’s stock fell by another 5.43 percent during the day, falling more than rivals J.C. Penny–down 2.47 percent–and Walmart–down 2.75 percent.

In some polls the country is split on the bathroom issue. A badly worded recent Reuters poll which did not take into account men using women’s changing rooms or the issue of school policy, showed a closely split decision with 42.1 percent saying people should use public restrooms based on their sex at birth. That compares to 40.8 percent who said they should use the bathroom of the gender “they identify with.”

On the other hand, a new Rasmussen poll found that fully 51 percent of respondents oppose Obama’s pro-transgender bathroom policies for schools with only 33 percent receptive to them.

Yet another poll from the end of April showed that public support for the progressives’ goal of mandatory mixed-sex rest rooms was down by 20 points in a week of polling.

An interesting comment at the bottom:

Do I sense panic behind those Target boardroom walls?

Could be. As Investopedia.com noted: "TGT shares closed Friday at $73.33, down 2.28%, adding to a one-week decline of 6.17%."

This morning's stock price is about the same -- $73.59 -- and first quarter earnings are due out today. Let's see if TGT continues its plunge toward its 52-week low -- $66.46.

Heh. Too little too late as they say. I won't shop at Target ever again, even if they reverse this decision. The damage has been done. My hope is Cornell finds himself on the unemployment line and Target goes into the dumpster of forgotten department stores.

I don't know how much help a new chief merchandising officer will be because:.

Target CEO Blames Weather For Tanking Business…No, Seriously
Because it couldn't possibly be anything else

The dumpster fire that is the national superstore known as Target has had quite a rough time lately. And is it any wonder? They can’t seem to get their act together when it comes to pleasing their customers.

First they ban guns within their stores because “safety.”

Then they began allowing men into women’s restrooms because “equality.”

Then they are currently suing a guy who stopped another guy from stabbing a girl to death because…well, because they’re dumb.

The American people responded, and as can be expected, Target’s ship has begun to sink. Not only did well over a million people sign the petition to boycott the store, the stock is slipping into the drink. Fewer and fewer people want to shop there, because frankly the store is unsafe. Especially to women who can’t carry a gun into the restroom a man just followed them into, and no one can save her should something happen because Target might sue the rescuer.

This all seems pretty obvious, and in no way confusing. People don’t want to shop at Target, because Target is a bad place to shop.

This apparently isn’t obvious to the CEO, though. According to him, nobody wants to shop at his stores because of – and I can’t believe I have to report this – weather.

I’m not kidding. Target CEO Brian Cornell told the Wall Street Journal that the reason sales are down is because people just don’t want to go out and buy stuff because it’s raining outside in some parts of the country.

Isn't this the same reason 5 year agricultural plans always failed under the old Soviet Union ?

I Googled transgender population and the number is only 700,000 nationwide. Currently only 0.3% of our population identifies as transgender. And with these people are many confused individuals who don't understand themselves nor what they're really experiencing, if you ask me..

The fuss is mainly being promoted by non-transgender liberals who want to create another civil rights issue over the bathroom. They will attempt to use this to besmirch those who hold traditional values. Wrecking traditional values is so much fun for a Lefty!!! The resulting chaos leaves people vulnerable and without moral guidance.
