Airports are putting on a dog and pony show — quite literally — to help keep passengers’ tempers in check as they face interminable security checkpoint lines.

The Transportation Security Administration’s lack of sufficient manpower combined with a seasonal surge in air traffic has caused massive gridlocks at airports – leaving fliers fuming even before they board their cramped planes.

In an effort to defuse tension, airports are sending in the animals, clowns, candy and musicians to entertain the grounded masses.

At Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, miniature horses from the nonprofit Seven Oaks Farms Miniature Therapy Horses in Hamilton, Ohio, are trotted in several times a month.

“Animals help reduce stress and anxiety levels and put smiles on people’s faces,” airport spokeswoman Mindy Kershner told NBC News. “Unlike service animals, who are working and should not be touched, therapy animals can be patted and hugged.”

Many airports use therapy dogs, but “we figured this is Kentucky, after all, so we need horses,” she said.

Who thinks of this cr9p? TSA union wage types sitting around the office watching porn on their computers and someone yells out.....hey clown and pony show, yeah that will work! Didn't they play music outside Auschwitz? They had those pretty vans playing sweet music driving around towns too.

If I was standing in a line for 3 hours and they pulled this stunt.......re-education camp would be my doom. No way I could not start yelling the truth about these long lines. TSA wants to hire 6000 more employees. Budget hike too. Now we have clown and pony shows. I bet taxpayers are paying for this too?

I wonder about that. Or is it a ploy by the TSA intended to force Congress to increase its budget?
